How to Child-Proofing Your Home
Babies are growing very fast and by the time they start moving around, you as the parent you will be too busy chasing them around, and you will not have any time to even think of child-proofing your home for their safety. It is vital that you do it in advance so that you do not get caught up. Analyze your home from your baby’s viewpoint before you start the Child-Proofing process.
Child proofing your home will save you the headache of having to look after them and panicking anytime you can’t see them around and wondering what is it that they are up to. There are some few important measures that you can undertake so that you can be well prepared when this time comes. Start by Child-Proofing your bathroom. Some of the precautions is to ensure that the water is not too deep nor too hot for the baby at least not deeper than your baby’s legs before they start walking on their own and start getting inside the bath tubes. As the baby starts to walk on their own and unsupervised, you can install the safety features like the non-slip mats to prevent the kids from slipping and falling in the bathtub and injuring themselves.
Keep all the unsafe items out of your child’s reach. When kids get to a certain age, they have a tendency of putting almost everything in their mouths and therefore keep all small ornaments away from the kids as this can be a choking hazard for your kids. Keep all the medicines, toiletries that can be toxic and mothballs away from your kids. Put all the items that can be pulled by your baby and fall on them down so that you can avoid these hazards. Examples include if you are using an ironing board, fold it and keep it away from the baby so that they will not pull it and then fall on them, do not keep anything that can fall on your baby after pulling it at a close range.
Your kids will not be able to understand the dangers associated with the wires and the cables and these can be the worst culprits of these hazards and so ensure that you hide them away from the kids. Hide all the cables and adaptors that are not in use. Another way of child-proofing your home is by using the finger guards on your doors.
Be watchful as the kids grow the windows can be a hazard for your kids especially if you reside on the upper floors and so secure your windows so that they will not be tempted to peep through. Install the window restrictors such that the kids will not be able to open the window, but still when you open the window yourself, you will restrict the window so that fresh air can enter your house but still secure your kid by limiting the space between the window such that the kid cannot pass through the wind and avoid slip and falls.
